4 out of 5 stars Pro/E Wildfire Instructor   March 7, 2010
Michelle E. Little (mlittle90)
This is an excellent learning tool however there has been a software update since I bought this book and my university uses Wildfire 5.0 and this book is 4.0. There are some major interface differences which I have to use "help" to find but it's still a great book!

1 out of 5 stars This book sucks   October 24, 2009

This is a terrible book to accompany a terrible program made by terrible people. As you use this book you may notice that there are missing or incorrect steps in every single exercise. This book includes no hints for fixing problems in your drawings, so if you make a mistake you might as well start over. Avoid this book if you possibly can.

3 out of 5 stars old version still good   August 31, 2009

I bought this book but just realized it is a very old version. I have done a few tutorials from it and it is very similar to the newest version. Some of the terms are not used anymore but the symbols seem to be the same. And the page numbers line up pretty well. I'm hoping it works out for the rest of the semester.

I am glad to have bought this textbook on Amazon because it was the only site that offered me a reasonable price. Fast shipment, good communication and great quality of product, more than I expected when I received it. Thanks!

3 out of 5 stars Inaccuracies w/r to Wildfire Release 2.0   June 30, 2005
Steven K. Rody (Knox, Indiana United States)

The book explains the mechanics of how to perform basic operations with Wildfire very well, in the first half of the book. However, more complex or higher level operations are sometimes inaccurate, having incorrect or missing steps, or poorly explained in later chapters. This includes some of what the book refers to as advanced drawing and modeling tools. It is quite frustrating to follow the directions given in the text only to find the software does not perform the task as described. In addition, the text gives no clue how to recover from mistakes. Thus, the user is often forced to closeout of the model/drawing completely and start from scratch, or the last save, assuming the application has not locked-up the computer. There is no coverage of sheetmetal modeling techniques, either.
It would appear the author either wrote the book based on an earlier release of Wildfire, or based it on Pro-E 2001. In any case, the GUI's in some cases do not look the same as shown in the text and the selectable choices are not always as described in the book.
Finally, Kelley/McGraw-Hill provide downloadable models and drawings that are useful at the noted website. However, there is no errata, or update posted for the book and no contact for Kelley.
Bottomline: Assuming better alternatives exist, it is a questionable purchase for novices wanting to learn Wildfire 2.0 or later.
