| Editorial Reviews:
Product Description The fifth edition of Numerical Methods for Engineers continues its tradition of excellence. Instructors love this text because it is a comprehensive text that is easy to teach from. Students love it because it is written for them--with great pedagogy and clear explanations and examples throughout. The text features a broad array of applications, including all engineering disciplines. The revision retains the successful pedagogy of the prior editions. Chapra and Canale's unique approach opens each part of the text with sections called Motivation, Mathematical Background, and Orientation, preparing the student for what is to come in a motivating and engaging manner. Each part closes with an Epilogue containing sections called Trade-Offs, Important Relationships and Formulas, and Advanced Methods and Additional References. Much more than a summary, the Epilogue deepens understanding of what has been learned and provides a peek into more advanced methods. Users will find use of software packages, specifically MATLAB and Excel with VBA. This includes material on developing MATLAB m-files and VBA macros. Approximately 80% of the problems are new or revised for this edition. The expanded breadth of engineering disciplines covered is especially evident in the problems, which now cover such areas as biotechnology and biomedical engineering.

Good stuff September 16, 2009 Joseph Hawkes-cates (Rolla, Mo) This book came in great shape and I'm able to use it quite well for class. Real happy with it.
Numerical Methods Book February 17, 2009 Brison Michael Lundgren This book came very fast and was in mint condition, I was very impressed with speed of deliver and quaily of book, it was still in its plastic.
Great Book September 24, 2008 Joanne Strickland (CALIFORNIA) I really like this book. I am teaching Programming Applications for Engineers and it is perfect. It uses advanced Excel Power tools and MATLAB, both of which we use, and its examples are from all walks of engineering careers. It is clearly written, explains the mathematical model behind the numerical method. I can't get enough of using it.
Clear, well written book July 24, 2008 N. IBASETA GARRIDO (France) The authors use a very pedagogical approach. The objectives for each part are well identified, the explanations are intuitive, and there is a lot of engineering applications and exercises. This book is hence suitable for an undergraduate course or as a starting point in the subject.
However, if you are searching for long mathematical demonstrations or advanced mathematical aspects (this was not my case), this is not your book.
Very Good March 26, 2008 V. Jagodnik (Croatia) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Book is very good. it has many numerical methods explained very simply.
I would recommend this book to all civil engineer scientist, and also students who found numerical methods interesting to study, and to use it for application to real world.
I would gave this book a 5star mark but i gave it only 4 because price. I also believe that the price is too high.
