5 out of 5 stars Skunk Works   June 9, 2010

What a great story! Well written and from a man who was there and lived a great adventure every day of his incredible career. I bought copies for my each of my sons and my father. This is a tale that should to be told to a much wider audience. Too bad more American corporations aren't run on the basic principles that the Lockheed Skunk Works lived by.

I purchased this as gift for my boyfriend, as he has always found the aircraft industy to be fascinating. He absolutely loved it. I would reccommend this as gift to anyone interested in learning about Lockheed or the aircraft industry in general.

This is a great memoir of Ben Rich's years at Skunk Works. I would give it the highest recommendation. I read in the book in a few days time and then loaned it to another guy at work who was going to serve jury duty. He finished the book in 2 days time. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who has in interest in the SR-71, the stealth fighter, or how Skunk Works operated during America's aerospace hayday.

This book is one of the best non-fiction book I've read this year.
It was beyond interesting, with a touch of sadness at the end. I am looking to get a job in this industry someday, and this book energized me and excited me about the opportunities

5 out of 5 stars Interesting expose on the Skunk Works and the CIA (back when it worked)   June 16, 2009

Ben Rich's tome on his organization (Lockheed Skunk Works) is told from his perspective - as employee, subordinate and eventual head of one of the most brilliant technological organizations ever. Not only do we learn about the projects the Works took on, but we get a first-hand glimpse of the genius that was Kelly Johnson - and of what the CIA could have been today if it hadn't been for Bay of Pigs (and the pencil-pushers and lawyers hadn't taken over). We also are offered a window into the motivations of the Lockheed employees, who were driven by Cold War realities not present today. Highly recommended.
